Donnell, Robert B.
Robert B. Donnell was born in Tennessee in 1865, where he received his early education and completed his practical apprenticeship in traditional southern agriculture. In 1904, he migrated to California, spending a brief period in Kings County before permanently relocating to Fresno County after recognizing its superior agricultural prospects. Upon arrival, he purchased an eighty-acre tract of land near the growing town of Reedley and began the arduous work of developing it.
Through steadfast dedication, Donnell systematically transformed his property from a raw, barren stubble field into a highly productive, multi-crop ranching estate. Utilizing modern agricultural methods and advanced farming implements, he successfully cultivated twenty acres of figs, seven acres of alfalfa, and over fifty acres of Muscatel grapes that consistently yielded impressive harvests. Deeply committed to regional economic growth and industry stabilization, he also became an active stockholder and member of the local fig, peach, and raisin growers’ associations.
