Davis, W. H.
W. H. Davis, Jr. was born in Centerville, Fresno County, in 1871, where he was reared and educated within a prominent pioneer family deeply rooted in California’s early history. Following the agricultural legacy of his father, an Argonaut of 1849, he pursued farming as his vocation and achieved significant success raising livestock and grain. Over his multi-decade career, he continually adapted his operations to align with regional developments, eventually expanding his holdings into extensive viticulture and horticulture.
Davis established a highly productive seventy-acre fruit ranch in the Round Mountain district, which he meticulously developed for the specialized cultivation of fruit and raisins. On this property, he built a substantial, pretentious residence surrounded by a picturesque environment for his wife, Mary, and their eight children. Beyond his private agricultural achievements, Davis engaged closely with his community as a charter member of the Native Sons and maintained a longtime fraternal membership with the Independent Order of Foresters.
