Davis, Jefferson Ellis
Jefferson E. Davis was born in Mariposa County in 1863, grew up primarily in Fresno County, and began managing his family’s pioneer estate by the age of sixteen. Building upon his deep generational roots in regional agriculture, he expanded his operations into a highly successful career as an extensive stockman. Through his industrious efforts, he eventually amassed and managed 3,000 acres of prime ranch land spanning across Fresno, Stanislaus, and Merced counties.
Beyond his professional success in the livestock industry, Davis emerged as a prominent civic leader committed to public service and regional governance. He served as an influential member of the City of Fresno Board of Police and Fire Commissioners, where he focused on upgrading local public safety and elevating community moral standards. A dedicated member of St. Paul’s Methodist Episcopal Church and a lifelong Democrat, he actively utilized his leadership position to advocate for municipal reforms and ensure the welfare of Fresno’s citizens.
