Daniel, John N.
John N. Daniel was born in Lassen County in 1865 and was raised in both California and Missouri before permanently returning to Fresno in 1885. He initially gained extensive agricultural experience working as a ranch foreman at Fish Slough, later homesteading 160 acres and managing up to 1,000 acres annually for large-scale grain and livestock production. His enterprising efforts successfully transformed a local wilderness into a highly productive agricultural property where he pioneered some of the area’s earliest alfalfa cultivation.
As a prominent settler, Daniel significantly advanced local irrigation infrastructure by co-constructing major canals and serving as the original chairman of the Tranquillity Irrigation District. His commitment to public service included working as a longtime road overseer, a local school trustee, and an executive committee member for the Pine Flat Conservation Project. Furthermore, he drove regional economic growth by co-founding and serving as a director of The First National Bank of Tranquillity.
