Dalena, Peter
Peter Dalena was born in Bari, Italy in 1880, where he learned the art of viticulture from a young age while working in his father’s vineyard. After immigrating to the United States in 1902, he worked various agricultural roles in northern California before settling in Fresno County as a vineyard foreman in 1905. In 1908, Dalena purchased raw acreage in the Arizona Colony, which he successfully leveled and transformed into a thriving forty-acre vineyard specializing in Thompson, sultana, and muscat grapes.
Through his specialized skills and industrious efforts, Dalena developed a highly improved ranch property and emerged as an accomplished, capable viticulturist in the region. He further contributed to his industry by becoming an active member and stockholder of the California Associated Raisin Company. Alongside his notable professional achievements, he raised three children with his wife, Emelia, while establishing a lasting footprint in Fresno County’s agricultural community.
