Bramlet, Reuben H.
R. H. Bramlet, born near Raleigh, Saline County, Illinois, on February 7, 1842, was a pioneer citizen, educator, and prominent ex-county officer of Fresno County, California. Descended from an early colonial family with a rich history of military service, he moved to California via the Isthmus in 1867 and studied at the University of the Pacific to become a teacher. Settling in Fresno County in 1870, he became one of the first public school teachers in the region, instructing students at Buchanan, Fresno Flats, Dalton, and Fresno City. His leadership skills propelled him into public office, where he served as County Superintendent of Schools, County Auditor, and County Assessor between 1875 and 1902.
In 1902, Mr. Bramlet settled on an eighty-acre ranch heavily dedicated to Muscat and Thompson seedless vines irrigated by the Consolidated Ditch. He was deeply interested in building irrigation ditches alongside other area pioneers and actively supported cooperative fruit growers associations as a stockholder in the California Associated Raisin Company. In 1876, he married fellow educator Euphemia Ellen Wren, a native of Illinois who became a prominent club leader and ex-chairman of the History and Landmarks Department of the California Woman Federation of Clubs. Together, the couple raised two daughters, Eva and Dora, and maintained a highly hospitable home within the Fresno community.
