Bopp, Conrad
Conrad Bopp, born in Samara, Russia, in 1864, was a resourceful individual who achieved significant success after relocating to Fresno County, California. Raised on a farm where he mastered horticulture and gardening from a young age, he later served nearly four years in the Russian army infantry before immigrating to the United States in 1890. Upon arriving in Fresno, he spent eleven years working in local brickyards before transitioning into ranching by renting a vineyard in Arizona Colony. His early experiences in both agricultural labor and commercial production prepared him well for establishing a permanent footprint in the region.
He later purchased a twenty-acre ranch on McNeil Avenue, expanding his holdings over time to include thriving peach orchards and specialized grape vineyards. Beyond his agricultural achievements, he was deeply committed to community involvement, helping organize the local Church of God and serving for seven years as its first ordained Elder for the German Congregation. His personal life was centered around his marriage to Louisa Schebelhut in 1893, with whom he raised ten children who continued the development work started by their parents. As a stockholder in prominent local agricultural associations, his industrious life highlights the meaningful contributions of immigrant families to Fresno County’s community and civic growth.
