Bollman, Alvira
Franklin Pierce Bollman, born in Iowa on January 2, 1853, and his wife, Alvira Griffeath, born in Iowa, successfully combined the histories of two pioneering families to build a prominent ranching legacy in Fresno County. Franklin grew up on his family farm in Iowa before moving to California in 1912 to seek greater agricultural opportunities. Alvira first arrived in California in 1881 with her first husband, Benjamin W. McCloskey, who had homesteaded wild land when the area was known as Clifton and lacked modern horticulture. Following McCloskey passing in 1913, Alvira took charge of the property and successfully developed it into a highly productive agricultural tract.
The couple united in marriage after Franklin arrival in California, bringing together their extensive family connections and shared background of industrious farming. Alvira, a dedicated member of multiple regional fruit and raisin growers associations, effectively managed the beautifully platted forty-acre ranch near Del Rey. The land featured thriving crops of Thompson Seedless grapes, muscats, apricots, and alfalfa, reflecting her proud role in advancing local prosperity. Together, their combined efforts and deep agricultural roots left a significant historical impact on the community development and farming success of early Fresno County.
