Beaumont, C. E.
C. E. Beaumont, born in Mayfield, Kentucky, on August 27, 1883, was a prominent attorney who became one of the leading figures of the Fresno County Bar. The son of a well known local newspaperman, he received his early education in Kentucky before studying law at Cumberland University in Tennessee, where he graduated in 1910. He immediately moved to Fresno, California, to begin his legal career, working in established local offices before briefly practicing law in Fort Worth, Texas. Drawn back by a deep appreciation for the region and its people, he returned to Fresno to continue his private practice and eventually entered public service as a deputy district attorney in 1914.
His dedication and efficiency in the district attorney office earned him wide respect, leading to his election as the district attorney of Fresno County in 1918. His success in public office was defined by hard work, strong administrative judgment, and the careful selection of capable assistants. Beyond his legal career, he married Lucy Madden in 1915, and the couple became active members of the First Presbyterian Church and various civic organizations, including the Masons and Elks. As a dedicated Democrat and community leader, his career reflects the vital role of educated professionals in shaping the legal and civic foundations of early twentieth-century California.
