Arostegny, Jean
Jean Arostegny, born in France in 1880, was an enterprising viticulturist who contributed to the agricultural growth of Fresno County, California. After receiving his education and working in Argentina, he immigrated to California and initially found employment with the prominent firm Miller & Lux in Firebaugh. Following a brief return to his native country to assist his family, his strong desire to return to California brought him permanently back to Fresno. He built a stable career by serving as a paving company foreman for several years, demonstrating his strong work ethic and leadership abilities within the growing community.
In 1913, Jean transitioned fully into agriculture by purchasing a thirty acre vineyard where he achieved notable success in viticulture. He established deep roots in the region alongside his wife Marie Indart and their two children, Domingo and Marie, participating actively as members of St. Alphonso Catholic Church. His civic commitment became official when he was made a citizen of the United States in 1916. As a public spirited individual who strongly believed in cooperation, his membership in the California Associated Raisin Company highlights his dedication to supporting the regional grape industry.
