Anderson, Otto
Otto Anderson, born in Sweden in 1876, was a progressive farmer who immigrated to the United States in 1900 and eventually settled in Kingsburg, California, in 1904. After working in New England machine shops, his desire for outdoor agriculture drew him to the Golden State, where his parents and four siblings also eventually relocated. In 1908, he married Alma Josephine Satterburg, a Swedish native with five children, and together they expanded their family with the birth of their son, Stanley. His background in Swedish agriculture prepared him well for the rapid development of his new home in the West.
As an enterprising landowner, Anderson successfully cultivated and sold a twenty acre ranch before establishing a beautifully improved fifty two acre property on Grant Avenue, supported by an additional alfalfa ranch in Tulare County. Alongside his sons, Arthur and Milton, he utilized advanced irrigation and modern machinery to develop the thriving estate. Beyond his agricultural achievements, he and his family became central figures in the educational and spiritual growth of their community through their dedicated involvement with the expanding Swedish Baptist Church. His life story exemplifies the profound impact of dedicated immigrant families on the economic and civic foundation of early Fresno County.
